Name one part of an argument?
Claim: A statement that states the position to be argued. Evidence: Facts and data used to back up the claim. Reasoning: Explains why the evidence supports the claim. Premise: links the reasons and evidence to the claim. Call to Action: attempt to convince the audience to do x,y,z based on their argument.
Parts of an Argument
Which part of an argument do you think is the most important?
- The introduction
- The evidence
- The counterargument
- The conclusion
Arguments can also be found in literature, such as in poems and short stories. Most arguments are non-fiction, speeches, documentaries, etc. Strong arguments use both evidence and reasoning to support the claim.
