Compounds are substances made up of two or more elements combined. Compounds have different physical and chemical properties than the elements that make up their composition. Compounds are everywhere; some common examples include water, salt, and air.

Element: A substance made up of 1 type of atom. They cannot be broken down into any other substance by chemical means. Compound: A substance composed of two or more elements chemically joined together
