Debating is a form of communication where two or more sides argue for different points of view. It can be done in an organized and formal manner such as in a classroom or a formal debate setting. In debating, both sides are required to make valid arguments and support their opinions with evidence.
Debating: A Fun Way to Learn (1 minute)
Argument: A statement or set of statements that are used to support or prove a point. Evidence: Information that supports the argument made in a debate. Rebuttal: Response to the opposition.
Concepts: (2 minutes)
Debates have been around since ancient times, with the first recorded debate taking place in Greece around 450 BC. The Lincoln-Douglas Debates of 1858 were some of the most famous debates in US history. Debating is a great way to practice critical thinking, public speaking, and research skills. Debates can be found on TikTok, TV, Radio, etc.
