RED ALERT! You wake up to urgent messages blaring from your phone and TV. A disaster is coming! It’s your job to keep your community safe. Students research past disasters and get briefed by the Emergency Response Coordinator. Then, they must write a guide that will minimize destruction. Will students lead their community to safety? Or will there be damages that could have been avoided? Use this story-based writing activity to practice selecting details from multiple sources for an informational response. To customize the lesson, type in a type of natural disaster and select your grade level, then prepare for impact.
