After reading Chapter 1 with students, brainstorm the issues that arise throughout the chapter, e.g., restrictions on the movement and education of girls, war, bombs, injuries, loss of homes, etc. Encourage explanation of each idea Students complete the 'Think, Puzzle, Connect' thinking routine. Share questions with each other and add them to the learning wall for further inquiry.
