Your students will be real-life heroes as they help others prevent total devastation from a pending natural disaster. Based on the information they read and gather from an insider interview, students will write a blog post to help a neighbouring community be better prepared and avoid destruction from a pending natural disaster. The more informative their blog is the more lives they will save! Target Audience ELA/RLA or Science, Grades 6-8 Lesson Outline: 1. Introduce the mission. 2. Share what we already know about volcanoes. 3. Read a text to gather background information. 4. Interview a survivor of the event or a leading scientist, and take notes of key ideas. 5. Write a draft of the blog post and get editor's feedback 6. Revise and submit blog post to find out how many lives they can save 7. Celebrate & Reflect To Generate this Lesson: -Select a natural hazard your students are interested in. -Enter the corresponding grade level. Pro Tip: -Use the moderator function to manage when your students receive their feedback. -Get input on the natural hazard students want to experience to maximize engagement. -Allow students to work in pairs. -Generate this lesson multiple times to learn about other natural hazards.
