Only those with keen claim, evidence, and reasoning skills will succeed. Based on the monster’s strengths and weaknesses, students must choose from 3 spells to defeat it. Students make their choice and support it with evidence and reasoning. If they succeed, they get the treasure; if they don’t . . . Use this story-based writing activity to practice writing short argumentative responses with a claim, evidence, and reasoning.
