Lesson description

The election for Commissioner of the Social Media Control Bureau is just days away. Tonight is the final debate. If you can win the debate, you’re all but guaranteed to win the election. All you need to do is convince the audience you have the best plan. There are two sides to the debate that students must consider. Then, students write their speech, sharing their plan and supporting it with evidence and reasoning. If their speech is convincing, the job is theirs! Otherwise, their opponent wins . . . Use this story-based writing activity to practice writing short argumentative responses with a claim, evidence, and reasoning. To customize the lesson, type in a key issue around social media for students to address and select your grade level. The debate starts now!
