What is AI? Artificial Intelligence is
the use of computer systems to mimic human intelligence, like reasoning, problem solving, and learning. a program made by people that has computers doing things that seem intelligent (or smart) in the same way that humans are intelligent.

Machine Learning is when computers use data to learn from and make decisions. It is a type of computer smarts or intelligence that lets them learn from a lot of information and recognize patterns on their own. In order for the computer to work for everyone, the examples need to come from many different people and places, without any bias. This is important because the computer learns from the data we give it.

What is Bias?
Machine learning bias come from the individuals who design and train the machine learning systems. These people could either create algorithms that reflect unintended cognitive biases or real-life prejudices because they use incomplete, faulty, stereotypical or prejudicial data sets.
For example, using data about medical professionals that includes only female nurses and male doctors could result in a real-world gender stereotype about healthcare workers in the computer system.

Natural Language Processing (NLP): NLP is a field of AI that focuses on enabling computers to understand and process human language, such as interpreting speech, understanding text, and providing automated responses.
Natural Language Processing
Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant allow us to perform tasks such as setting reminders, controlling home devices, playing music, etc. using voice commands.

AI Timeline
In 1842, English mathematician Ada Lovelace helped Charles Babbage publish the first algorithm to be carried out by his Analytical Engine.
1921 the term "robot" is introduced by Czech writer Karel ÄŚapek in his play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots). The word "robot" comes from the word "robota" (work or slave).
In 1950, “I Robot” was published – a collection of short stories by science fiction writer Isaac Asimov.

1956, The term 'artificial intelligence' was coined for a summer conference at Dartmouth University, by a young computer scientist, John McCarthy.
1968, 2001: A Space Odyssey imagines where AI could lead. Minsky influenced science fiction too. He advised Stanley Kubrick on the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, featuring an intelligent computer, HAL 9000.

At Shanghai's 2010 World Expo, some of the extraordinary capabilities of these robots went on display, as 20 of them danced in perfect harmony for eight minutes. These new computers enabled humanoid robots to use technology pioneered over the previous decade.

2017 - Taryn Southern is a pop artist working with several AI platforms to co-produce her debut album I AM AI and her single “Break Free” .
2022 Open AI releases ChatGPT - which stands for Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer, is a large language model-based chatbot that allows users to refine and steer a conversation towards a desired length, format, style, level of detail, and language used.

AI Will Assist Us With Creativity
AI generaed artwork won a recent art competition in the US. An AI image fooled judges and won a photography contest. AI has generated a children's book in a single weekend.

Use Caution When Using AI
AI can make up information called hallucinations - nonsensical content. This can be caused by errors in encoding and decoding between text and representations. Bias and Discrimiation - AI systems may be making decisions that are unfair and unjust to certain groups of individuals. AI cannot replicate emotional intelligence - the ability to recognize and understand our own emotions and those of others.

Isaac Asimov - sience fiction author, 1941 "Liar" coined the term robotics which created Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics
Robots must never harm human beings. Robots must follow instructions from humans without violating rule 1. Robots must protect themselves without violating the first two rules.
