Concepts:
Classroom rules were first recorded in 1820 in a book by British teacher Johann Pestalozzi. In the 1930s, educational theorist John Dewey argued that classroom rules should be developed by students rather than imposed by teachers. Students in the 1920s were allowed to wear hats in class, as long as the hats were taken off when reciting lessons.
