Parts of an essay review
An essay starts with an introduction paragraph. This includes: a hook, three sentences to just introduce your ideas (don't include your details yet!), and your thesis statement that tells the whole point of your paper. Body paragraphs--each with their own idea (here is where your details and research can come in). Conclusion paragraph. This will start with your thesis (same as your introduction), sentences to summarize your ideas, and a final conclusion sentence to sum up the whole essay.

Writing a Body Paragraph
Body paragraphs start with a topic sentence. A topic sentence should clearly state one of your ideas from your thesis statement. Each paragraph should focus on one idea and transition smoothly to the next. When you finish, re-read your paragraph to make sure it makes sense. Body paragraphs should include the topic sentence, at least 3 supporting details (reasons why), and a conclusion sentence to sum up the ideas.

Why do I need body paragraphs?
Body paragraphs are important in writing because they help build an argument by providing evidence and support for the main idea (your thesis). The length of a body paragraph can vary, but the average length is between five and seven sentences. An essay typically has 3 body paragraphs. Each body paragraph provides evidence that supports one part of your thesis.
