The Chinese Exclusion Act was a law passed in 1882 that prohibited all immigration of Chinese laborers. The law was in effect for over 60 years, and it was not repealed until 1943. The Chinese Exclusion Act was the first law to limit immigration to the US based on race.

The Chinese Exclusion Act was in effect for more than 60 years until it was finally repealed in 1943. The Act also prohibited Chinese already in the U.S. from becoming citizens and from owning real estate outside of certain designated areas.
