How do you tell the time on a clock?
Clocks tell us what time it is. There are two main types of clocks: analog and digital. Analog clocks show time with hands that move around the face of the clock. Digital clocks show time with numbers. We can tell time by counting the hours and minutes on an analog clock. Digital clocks tell time with numbers.
Hour: a period of time measured by a clock, typically 60 minutes. Minute: a period of time equal to 1/60th of an hour. Second: a period of time equal to 1/60th of a minute.
An ancient sundial from Egyptian times could tell time with an accuracy of 1/24th of a day. The world’s first mechanical clock was invented in the 14th century. The world’s first digital clock was created in 1656, over 350 years before the first digital watch.
