How many phases does the moon have?
The Moon orbits around the Earth and its shape changes over time. We can see 8 different phases of the Moon, from a New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter, and Waning Crescent. The Moon's phases are caused by how much of the Sunlit side of the Moon is facing us.
Phases of the Moon
New Moon: A phase of the moon when it is not visible in the night sky and is the beginning of the lunar cycle. Waxing Moon: This phase occurs after the new moon and is when the moon is growing in size and brightness. Full Moon: This is the phase when the moon is fully illuminated and is the brightest it will ever be in the night sky.
Concepts:
The Moon's orbit around the Earth is not a perfect circle, but an egg-shaped oval. The same side of the Moon always faces the Earth. The side we don't see from Earth is called the 'far side of the Moon'. The Moon has a very weak gravitational field, and it is actually possible for a person to jump higher on the Moon than on Earth.

What is the opposite of day?
Days and nights happen in different parts of the world at different times, depending on the time zone. Time zones are like lines on a map that divide different parts of the world into different time periods. In some places, it can be day when it's night in other places!
Time Zones: Days and Nights
Day: A period of 24 hours that is marked by light and dark in alternating periods. Night: The period of darkness between sunset and sunrise. Time Zones: Areas of the Earth that are divided into 24 sections, and each section has a different time based on the sun's position in the sky.
Concepts:
The International Date Line (IDL) is an imaginary line that divides the Earth into two parts, the east and the west. When you cross the IDL, you jump ahead or back one day in time. Due to the rotation of the Earth, day and night are caused by the Earth's tilt relative to the Sun. The Earth's tilt is what causes the seasons. Residents of the northernmost and southernmost parts of the world experience midnight sun and polar night respectively. This is because in these regions, the sun is always above or below the horizon.
