Name three types of soil?
Soil is made up of a mixture of minerals, organic matter, gases, liquids, and organisms. Soils can be divided into three main types: sand, silt, and clay. The type of soil affects the way water, air, and nutrients move in and out of it.
Types of Soils
Sandy Soil: A soil type composed of large particles that have a gritty texture and drain quickly. Clay Soil: A soil type composed of small particles and is slow to drain. Loamy Soil: A soil type composed of a mix of sand, silt and clay particles and is considered the best type of soil for growing plants.
Concepts:
The amount of organic matter in soil is known as its humus content. Humus is a major source of available nutrients for plants. Soil is made up of a mixture of minerals, organic matter, air and water. Soil is alive! It contains many organisms, such as bacteria, fungi, earthworms, and even some small animals.
