What is the best way to achieve success?
Three attitudes help us to be persistent (I Can Do It!, Work Tough, Giving Effort). Exaggerating the difficulty of a task makes it harder to do. We can list the thinking/self-talk we will use to help us be persistent when doing difficult, time-consuming tasks.
Learning objectives:
Working hard and staying focused on what you want can help you reach your goals. If you don't give up and keep working towards your goals, you will eventually succeed. No matter how hard it is, don't give up and you will eventually be rewarded!
Persistence Pays Off
Work together in pairs: What is one example of how you have put persistence into practice in your life?
Grit: The strength of character to stay focused and determined to achieve a goal even when faced with difficulty or failure. Perseverance: Continuing to do something even though it is difficult and you want to give up. Work Ethic: A set of values based on hard work and diligence.
Concepts:
What does 'persistence' mean?
- Continuing to do something despite difficulties or obstacles

The average person gives up on a goal after only 8 attempts. The most successful people are those who persist even after failing 20 times. The most successful people take an average of 66 days to form a new habit.

Estimations about a task’s difficulty level can affect our motivation. If we think something is ‘totally difficult’ (impossible), we will be less likely to do it. Sometimes we can mistakenly think that something that is hard (e.g. writing up a science experiment) is close to impossible. As a consequence, we may only make a half-hearted effort to do it.
Exaggerating the difficulty of a task makes it harder to do.
