Respect for each person, as created in the image of God and as a reflection of God, is expressed through moral behaviour towards oneself and others. Two key principles of Catholic social teaching, namely respect for the dignity of the human person and human rights and responsibilities, provide guidelines for developing a healthy understanding of one's personal identity and of human relationships.

Poverty is a lack of basic necessities like food, clothing and shelter. It can also refer to a lack of access to education, health care or other services. It is often caused by low income, unemployment or discrimination.
What is Poverty?
basic necessity: A requirement for living a healthy life, such as food, clothing, and shelter. income: The money that someone earns from their job or business. discrimination: The unfair treatment of people based on their race, gender, religion, or other factors.

More than half of the world’s population lives on less than $2.50 per day. Over 80% of the world’s wealth is held by just 20% of the population. The United Nations estimates that 1.3 billion people are currently living in extreme poverty.
