Past Progressive expresses an ongoing action in the past, usually with 'was/were + -ing' Ex. The boat was floating. Simple Past expresses a completed action in the past, usually with 'did + verb' Ex. The passengers arrived. Both tenses are used to describe events in the past, but they express different meanings. Ex. They were talking. vs. They talked.

It is formed by using the verb 'to be' plus the present participle of the verb (with an -ing ending). Ex. We were dancing when the song played. Simple Past: A verb tense that expresses an action that was completed in the past. It is formed by using the verb in its past form.
