What is involved in observation, inference, and prediction?
Learning Goal
The students will be able to make observations and inferences to use when making a prediction.
Observation, Inference & Prediction
You will view 6 pictures. For each picture you will make an observation, prediction and inference. Remember: OBSERVATION: the results of using one or more of your senses to gather factual information and taking note of what is occurring. (The hat is blue. The coat is blue. The wind is blowing.) PREDICTION: a statement of what will happen next in a sequence of events based on prior observations, knowledge and experience. (The hat will blow off the person’s head.) INFERENCE: a logical explanation of an observation that is drawn from prior knowledge or experience. (This person likes the color blue.)
Observation, Inference & Prediction
OBSERVATION: SpongeBob is yellow, Patrick is pink, SpongeBob and Patrick have open mouths PREDICTION: They are going to cry, OR going to run, OR going to hide. INFERENCE: They see Plankton burning down the Krusty Krab OR Mr. Krabs just stole all the money.
