Architecture is the art and science of designing and constructing buildings. It includes both the design of the physical structure and the design of the spaces within. Architects consider the safety, beauty, and practicality of their designs.
The Basics of Architecture
Architecture is the art and science of designing and creating structures that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Architecture involves the planning, designing, and constructing of buildings and other physical structures. Architecture also includes the study of how people interact with the spaces and environments that are created by the structure.
Concepts:
Ancient Egyptians used a technique called post-and-lintel architecture to build large structures like temples and tombs. This technique uses two vertical posts, or columns, with a horizontal beam, or lintel, placed across the top. The oldest known surviving stone building in the world is the Knap of Howar on the island of Papa Westray in Scotland. It was built around 3700 BC, making it over 5,500 years old. The Parthenon in Athens is considered the most perfect example of Greek architecture. It is a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena and took 15 years to complete, beginning in 447 BC.
