What is the difference between a fact and an opinion?
A fact is something that is true and can be proven with evidence. An opinion is a belief or judgement that cannot be proven. It is important to know the difference between facts and opinions.
Fact vs Opinion
Fact: A statement that can be proven true or false. It is based on objective evidence, not opinion. Opinion: A belief or point of view based on how someone feels about a topic. It is not based on facts. Reliable Source: A source of information that can be trusted because it is accurate and unbiased.
Opinion statements usually contain words like 'I think', 'I believe', 'in my opinion', whereas facts usually contain words like 'has been proven', 'is known to be true' or 'has been observed' In ancient Greece, the Sophists were the first to make a distinction between facts and opinions. Opinions are more subjective and can be changed, whereas facts can't be changed.
