What are the basic building blocks of the body?
Cells are the fundamental building blocks of living things. Cells are too small to be seen by the naked eye. All living things are made up of cells.
Cells: The Building Blocks of Life
Which of the organisms below has specialized cells to help it function?
- Amoeba
- Bacteria
- Fish
- Paramecium
Cellular Organelles: Specialized parts within a cell that perform functions such as energy production and waste removal. Cell Membrane: A thin layer that surrounds a cell and controls what enters and leaves it. DNA: A molecule inside a cell's nucleus that carries genetic instructions.
Concepts:
Is able to perform ALL life functions with just ONE cell. (Uni-one... INDEPENDENT. I want to do it all by myself!) You need a microscope to see them. They are TINY! The most common types are: Amoeba Paramecium Euglena Bacteria HINT: These words we don't hear about because they don't need help to survive.
Unicellular
What adaptations do you think single-celled organisms have that help them survive?
Made up of MORE than one cell. They are specialized meaning they all have something different to contribute. (Help! I need someone with a different job!) You need a transport system to MOVE nutrients. There are 2 types of multicellular organisms Plants Animals HINT: Humans, Plants, Animals, Insects, all need help!
Multicellular
Draw / write: What are some differences between single-celled organisms and multi-celled organisms?
What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of being single-celled or multi-celled?
