CAUSE AND EFFECT Cause and effect is a type of text structure that writers use to describe an event or several events (the cause) and the event or events that follow, or result (the effect). COMPARE AND CONTRAST Nonfiction writers use the compare and contrast text structure to show how two or more things are alike or different.
