What are the three main stages of the water cycle?
Water evaporates from oceans, lakes, and rivers into the atmosphere. Water condenses in the atmosphere to form clouds. Water falls back to Earth’s surface as rain or snow.
The Water Cycle
Evaporation: The process of water turning into vapor and rising into the atmosphere. Condensation: The process by which water vapor changes into liquid water. Precipitation: Any kind of water that falls from the sky, such as rain, snow, sleet, or hail.
Concepts:
An estimated 500 million tons of water evaporate from the world’s oceans each day. On average, a single cloud can hold enough water for about half an inch of rainfall. Over 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered in water!
