Water Cycle also called Hydrologic Cycle
6-8.ESS2.C.1 (MS-ESS2-4)*** Develop a model to describe the cycling of water through Earth's systems driven by energy from the sun and the force of gravity
NGSS Standard
How is energy involved in changing water’s state and how is water constantly moving all over Earth (i.e. rain or snow storms, etc.)
Guiding Question
What questions do you have about the water cycle project?
How many paragraphs is your water cycle project going to have?
Must include these words: Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation, Accumulation, Run off, Transpiration, Gravity, Sun, Heat (thermal energy, Cool, Water vapor, Gas, Solid and Liquid. Must be 5 paragraphs each paragraph 4-5 sentences
Water Cycle Narrative Project
I can create a model of the water cycle.
What are the two factors that drive the water cycle?
Which stage in water cycle is driven by gravity?
Which stage is driven by thermal energy (heat) or the sun?
You could be drinking pee from dinosaurs long ago. How?
A single water molecule can take up to 3,000 years to complete the water cycle! The water cycle is driven by energy from the sun and the force of gravity! When water evaporates, it leaves behind salts and minerals which can help to fertilize the land!
Did you know?
Water evaporates from oceans and lakes into the atmosphere. Water vapor condenses and forms clouds which eventually rain down. The water falls back to the land to start the cycle again.
Water Cycle
Where did the water from a bottle water come from?
Place the correct steps to the water cycle.
Brain break: Sure! Draw a bear wearing a tutu and a crown, holding a flower bouquetendforeach
Evaporation is the process of a liquid turning into a gas. This is the first step of the water cycle where liquid water from oceans, lakes, and rivers evaporate into the atmosphere. Condensation is the process of a gas turning into a liquid. This is the second step of the water cycle where water vapor in the atmosphere cools and condenses into tiny droplets of liquid water. Precipitation is the process of the water droplets falling back to Earth as rain, snow, hail, or sleet. This is the third step of the water cycle and is the way water returns to the land and oceans.
Concepts:
What is the first stage in the water cycle?
- Evaporation
- Condensation
- Precipitation
- Sublimation
Which stage in the water cycle is driven by energy from sun or thermal (heat) energy?
What is the second step in the water cycle?
- Condensation
- Sublimation
- Evaporation
- Precipitation
How can you remember that condensation is the stage that creates clouds, steam in the shower or fog?
What is the third step in the water cycle?
- Precipitation
- Evaporation
- Sublimation
- Condensation
The thrid step or percipitation is driven by..........?
Transpiration is the process of water evaporating from plants. It is the major way that water is cycled back into the atmosphere. Plants lose water in the form of vapor through their leaves.
Transpiration - The Water Cycle
How can you remember that transpiration is water vapor given off by Trees or plants (producers)?
What is the most important role of the sun in the water cycle?
What would happen if one of the stages in the water cycle was removed?
Which stage starts the water cycle?
