Time Zones 4 Unit 11
In one word, why do people lie?
We lie to protect ourselves and others from harm. We often feel pressure to lie to fit in or be accepted. We sometimes lie because it can be easier than telling the truth.
Why We Lie
Deception: The act of deliberately giving someone false information or beliefs. Self-Deception: A form of lying to oneself in order to avoid facing uncomfortable truths. White Lie: An often trivial, diplomatic or well-intentioned untruth.
Why do you think people lie? Pick the option that best fits your opinion.
- To avoid getting in trouble
- To make themselves look better

The average person tells about 11 lies every week. People tend to lie more in email than in face-to-face conversations. We often lie to make ourselves look better or to protect someone else's feelings.
